Vea tapware collection by Christian Haas for Villeroy & Boch
Dezeen Showroom: German industrial designer Christian Haas has designed a series of bathroom taps for Villeroy & Boch informed by the clear geometry of classic perfume bottles.
The Vea taps, available in matt black or chrome, feature precise facets that help to define the edges of the taps and refract light in a controlled way, directing shadows and creating a slim, clearly defined silhouette.
"The inspiration for the facet actually came from the classic design language of a perfume bottle," Haas said. "For me, a classic glass bottle always has something very elegant about it, almost a natural, everyday luxury. That was our starting point."
"My approach is often a search for what I call 'sensual reduction'," he added.
"In my opinion, a sculptural approach and calm design are not mutually exclusive. With Vea, the aim was to achieve a high degree of independence and recognisability that nevertheless blends discreetly into different architectural contexts."
A central control button, rendered in black or white ceramic, is used to control the flow of water in lieu of a traditional handle.
This ViPush control can be turned to adjust the temperature in a satisfyingly tactile interaction that once again nods to the perfume bottle.
"The lever is often a visual distraction in the silhouette of a tap," Haas said. "Without it, we were able to reduce the body to a clear basic form."
