Outdoor Cord seating by Abril Zepeda for Masaya
Masaya furniture

Dezeen Showroom: furniture brand Masaya's handcrafted rocking and lounge chairs, made from solid teak and woven cord, are intended for use outdoors.

Handmade in Nicaragua, the Arenal Outdoor Rocking Chair and the Masaya Outdoor Lounge Chair were both conceived by designer Abril Zepeda for local brand Masaya.

Rocking Chair
The Arenal Outdoor Rocking Chair is handcrafted in Nicaragua

Each piece of furniture comprises a FSC-certified solid teak frame, which is available either sealed or unfinished.

Zepeda covered both chairs in distinctively coloured handwoven cord, designed to be naturally weather- and pest-resistant.

The woven seats are crafted using generations-old techniques, and are paired with a sleek timber frame to add a contemporary touch.

Lounge Chair
Abril Zepeda crafted the Masaya Outdoor Lounge Chair with the same techniques

The woven seats come in various patterned and single-colour finishes.

"I try to always design from a wide perspective: how we live, what we need and what makes us feel at ease in our homes," said Zepeda.
