A stone and steel bridge in the Cairngorms by Scottish studio Moxon Architects, which has been shortlisted for the RIAS Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award, features in this video produced by Jim Stephenson.

The film forms part of a series being published by Dezeen in collaboration with the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) to highlight the annual award's 2025 shortlist.

In the video, viewers are introduced to the Gairnshiel Jubilee Bridge, created by Moxon Architects to redirect traffic away from the neighbouring 250-year-old Gairnshiel Bridge.

According to studio founder Ben Addy and Aberdeenshire Councillor Geva Blackett, Gairnshiel Jubilee Bridge was designed to be "a sibling to the existing bridge" with a "functional and very graceful" design that draws on its form.

"With the existing structure, you've got the sort of very slender arch that then widens out," Addy said.

"We took inspiration from that with the new structure where we've got our wing walls [that] also taper off into the landscape," he added.

Established in 2002, the Andrew Doolan Best Building in Scotland Award is an annual award that highlights Scottish projects, with this year's winner set to be announced on 5 December.

RIAS said this year's four-strong shortlist, which ranges from rural infrastructure projects to urban public-realm initiatives, features projects that "celebrate architecture's place alongside other disciplines".

Shortlisted alongside the Gairnshiel Jubilee Bridge are the renovation of Union Terrace Gardens by Stallan-Brand and LDA Design, the historic Fairburn Tower renewed by Simpson & Brown and The Nucleus Building by Sheppard Robson.
