US studio Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture has shared exclusive photos of construction progressing on Jeddah Tower, the world's next tallest building, which has reached its 100th floor.

The photos show the megatall skyscraper's tapered form rising in Saudi Arabia, with three prongs taking shape around a central core.

Glass cladding has been applied to some of the lower portions of the reinforced concrete structure, which reached its 100th floor this week.

Expected to be completed in 2028, Jeddah Tower is set to surpass Dubai's Burj Khalifa to become the world's tallest building. It will also be the world's first building to reach a kilometre in height.

Designs for Jeddah Tower were first revealed in 2011, and it broke ground in 2013, but a series of complications halted its construction. These include financial issues, the Covid-19 pandemic, and technical challenges related to weak soil.

Progress also paused when the contractor, Binladin Group, was taken off the project due to the company owner being arrested as part of 2017 corruption purges in Saudi Arabia, which also saw the project's developer, Prince Al Waleed bin Talal Al Saud, detained.

Construction on Jeddah Tower officially restarted in January 2025, when it stood at 63 storeys.

It was designed to be the heart of Jeddah Economic City, a 5.3-million-square-metre development along the coast of the Red Sea, situated 20 kilometres to the north of central Jeddah.

When completed, Jeddah Tower is expected to contain apartments, offices and a Four Seasons hotel, with 56 lifts transporting people at 12 metres per second.

A cantilevering steel balcony measuring 30 metres in diameter will project from one of the building's penthouses at around 600 metres high.

Dezeen recently spoke with Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture co-founder Gordon Gill, who described the shape of Jeddah Tower as "like a child's drawing of a paper aeroplane".

Elsewhere in Saudi Arabia, multiple construction contracts at Neom's Trojena ski resort and The Line city have been cancelled, as the controversial giga-project appears to have stalled.
