Dezeen Showroom: cutting and folding techniques give life to the Kite acoustic ceiling panels, designed by duo MUCNYC for workplace furniture brand Narbutas.

The Kite acoustic panels are designed for open-plan spaces with exposed ceilings, where hard surfaces can cause sound reflections and increased noise levels.

The Kite acoustic panels are cut and folded into 3D structures

The panels add a soft, cocooning influence, with suspended designs made of flat felt sheets that are cut, expanded and folded into interesting 3D structures.

There are five different designs in the collection, which is inspired by the way kites are transformed when lifted by the wind.

Different designs can help to zone an open space

The designs include swirling, rounded shapes as well as angular, geometric ones, but all have a harmony in their style that allows them to work well in combination across the same project, helping to zone spaces.

The Kite acoustic panels are made of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic felt containing more than 50 per cent recycled content and are available in a range of colours.
