Promotion: Czech lighting brand Bomma has unveiled an installation made from upcycled crystal shards inside Copenhagen's newly restored Hofteatret theatre during this year's 3 Days of Design festival.

Named Fragments of Light, the installation fills the 18th-century Hofteatret theatre with dozens of illuminated crystal forms suspended among layers of translucent fabric.

The installation is composed of discarded crystal remnants gathered during the production of Bomma's Fragments lighting collection, designed by Studio Dechem.

The recycled crystal offcuts create faceted jewel-like surfaces that catch and scatter light throughout the theatre interior.

For the installation, the leftover shards were fused into chunky translucent forms before being cut and hand-polished into angular volumes at varying heights throughout the theatre.

Arranged between sheer textile curtains, the lights cast shifting reflections across the auditorium's balconies, walls and parquet floors.

The project marks one of the first design installations to occupy Hofteatret following its reopening earlier this year after a five-year restoration.

To reference the theatrical setting, the installation will also include dance performances staged every 30 minutes throughout the day, alongside fragrances developed by perfume brand Pigmentarium.

Bomma said the installation explores themes of transformation and reuse, turning what was previously discarded material into sculptural lighting objects.

Founded in 2012, Bomma creates handcrafted lighting and glass objects that combine traditional glassmaking techniques with advanced manufacturing technologies.
