"We need a version with a chewed up end" says commenter

In this week's comments update, readers are discussing an outsized, light-up version of the iconic Bic Cristal ball-point pen, unveiled by designer Mario Paroli and Italian brand Seletti at Maison&Objet.
Designed to mark the end of the brand's celebrations for Bic Cristal's 75th anniversary, the Bic Lamp is 12 times the size of the standard pen and comes in pendant, wall and floor variations in a choice of red, blue or black.

"I'd buy one"
Dezeen readers were intrigued by the pen-shaped lamp, with Design Junkie calling it "funny, kinda clever" before deciding that it "might work, might not depending on the price."
Vandra weighed in to say "I'd buy one as long as it isn't priced outrageously high".
"Cute", wrote baju-baju, suggesting "we need a version with a chewed-up end and bent clip".
"An interesting lamp idea reminiscent of functional oversized Pop art objects like Gaetano Pesce's Moloch floor lamp and more recently giant versions of the classic Anglepoise lamps", contributed Joaquin.
Meanwhile, other commenters had doubts. "I mean, I'm a fan of a biro, but it's hard to imagine anyone outside of Bic's office will want one of these," reflected Henry.

"The architect afraid of colour is such a tired cliche"
Commenters were largely unconvinced by a minimalist holiday home in Kerala, India, designed by Studio Nirvana to reference the principles of Zen Buddhism.
"Does anyone live there? Or is it built for a magazine?" wondered Bill.
For Heywood Floyd, "the architect afraid of colour is such a tired cliche". Commenter Souji took a more blunt view, calling the home "barren and soulless".
However, Pa Varreon offered a less pessimistic assessment, writing "one evolution in Indian modernist architecture – let's see whether the future will turn it into an icon, or a reference."

"Did they just have a load of excess concrete lying around?"
Also causing a stir in the comments section this week was the news that architecture studio BIG released photos of the San Pelligrino Flagship Factory under construction in a mountain valley in Italy.
"Blimey, whilst the rest of us are trying so hard to optimise and decarbonise concrete structures, why are BIG and San Pelligrino using thousands of tonnes of it to support fresh air?" said Alexis Harrison in a comment that was upvoted nine times.
"Did they just have a load of excess concrete lying around that needed using up?" asked H_J_C.
Souji was similarly scathing, writing "looks like a bad AI render that should have been scrapped."
