Riverwake: Immersive Advocacy for Florida Everglades by Nicole Hammond

Riverwake: Immersive Advocacy for Florida Everglades by Nicole Hammond

"Riverwake leverages Florida's themed entertainment industry to advocate for ecological restoration in the Everglades.

"Through the design of a temporary resort, the project explores how immersive architecture can educate visitors about environmental stewardship.

"Invasive species and ecological waste are transformed into building materials, creating a direct relationship between restoration and construction.

"Designed for temporary intervention, the resort considers the full life cycle of its components, allowing materials to be deconstructed, reused and relocated to future restoration sites.

"By positioning architecture as a regenerative process, the project demonstrates how tourism can contribute to ecological recovery while leaving no trace behind."

Sisu by Payton Rohrbaugh

Sisu by Payton Rohrbaugh

"Sisu is a regenerative framework of essential resources and societal systems that combats the growing climate and cultural conflict plaguing the Sicilian Island of Favignana.

"In the wake of a growing climate and tourism crisis, the island of Favignana faces a conflict impacting not only its access to essential resources but also its cultural identity.

"Through a large–scale intentional architectural intervention, rooted within the influence of the lost cultural practices of the island, the people of Favignana have a newfound sense of autonomy, for which they can rewrite the future of their home."

re:Timber by Prem Patel

Re:Timber by Prem Patel

"This timber factory reimagines an abandoned coal train storage site in Southern West Virginia as a regenerative mass timber manufacturing hub for local workers, timber producers, builders, students and post-coal communities.

"The project transforms leftover industrial remnants into a regional system for processing local logs into glulam/CLT, mass timber and OSB/I Joists.

"Rather than exporting raw materials, the factory keeps economic value within the region through manufacturing, rail distribution, education and skilled labour.

"Designed to adapt over 100 years, the architecture uses the materials it produces to repair, expand and demonstrate new forms of construction, turning the extraction's leftover landscape into renewable infrastructure."

Hidden Appalachia: An Architecture of Resilience by Una Ivanovic

Hidden Appalachia: An Architecture of Resilience by Una Ivanovic

"Located in Welch, West Virginia, a town shaped by the rise and fall of the coal industry, this project proposes a campus dedicated to healing a landscape and community marked by extraction.

"Organised around education, recreation and nutrition, the campus invests directly in the people of Welch.

"Its programs promote learning, health and self-sufficiency while responding to some of the region's most persistent challenges, including poverty, poor health and limited opportunity.

"Embedded within the threshold between Welch's urban fabric and the wounded Appalachian landscape beyond, the project transforms architecture from an object into a framework for regeneration, cultivating the conditions necessary for long-term community resilience.

"This project reflects my belief that architecture has a responsibility not only to serve people, but to restore the conditions in which they can thrive."

Mimi by Kieran Gardy

Mimi by Kieran Gardy

"Mimi is a 10-piece furniture collection designed for a high-end dining experience centred on connection, presence and memory.

"Inspired by moments shared with my grandmother around the table, the collection explores dining as a meaningful social experience rather than simply a functional activity.

"Through bold patterns, mixed materials and expressive forms, Mimi transforms dining spaces into environments that encourage gathering, conversation and storytelling.

"Each piece contributes to a rich and inviting atmosphere where texture, colour and form reflect the layered nature of human connection.

"The collection invites people to slow down, engage with one another and create lasting memories together."

Sun.Lamp by Sophia Hicks

Sun.Lamp by Sophia Hicks

"From the Strata collection, Sun.Lamp pays homage to the carefully crafted architecture of the world in order to juxtapose hasty post-industrial construction.

"The forms are pulled from architectural motifs, most notably doors and windows. The mulberry papery takes inspiration from the use of paper in Japanese Shoji doors.

"The hand joining of the 83 cherry pieces highlights a value in craftsmanship taken from the arts and crafts movement.

"This piece brings that intentionality into our spaces through the craft of the piece itself and through the control given to users by way of using doors as physical dimmers."

Raíz:

Raíz: When Memory Fades, the Environment Remembers by Anthony Pearl

"Raíz is a memory-supportive living community designed for individuals in the early stages of dementia.

"The project rethinks the transition from independent living to assisted care by centring dignity, familiarity and emotional stability.

"Rather than treating early-stage dementia as full dependency, Raíz uses hospitality as a framework to support autonomy, spatial orientation and daily life.

"Clear circulation, natural light and intuitive wayfinding reduce disorientation, while shared lounges, family kitchens, wellness spaces and restorative environments foster connection and belonging.

"Raíz proposes a new model of memory care that preserves identity and supports continuity through design."

Harbor of Hope Animal Shelter by Ethan Johnson

Harbor of Hope Animal Shelter by Ethan Johnson

"Most animal shelters are built for containment, not healing. Harbor of Hope reimagines the animal care facility as a therapeutic environment, one that simultaneously serves the animals waiting for a home, the staff who care for them, and the visitors who might change their lives.

"The Interactive Cat Lounge pictured here is one expression of that philosophy, a community cafe space where people and cats connect in a calm, sensory-conscious setting designed to increase adoptability.

"Located in South Los Angeles, this 11,600 SF evidence-based design applies trauma-informed and fear-free principles to every spatial decision."

Flora: The Luxury of Becoming by Giovanna Holley

Flora: The Luxury of Becoming by Giovanna Holley

"Flora: The Luxury of Becoming is a trauma-informed wellness centre designed for women survivors of sexual violence.

"A space centred not on returning to who they once were, but on becoming someone new through healing.

"Inspired by the stages of a flower's growth, the project guides survivors through protection, grounding, expression, and renewal using thoughtful interiors, sensory comfort, biophilic design and spaces for therapy, creativity, movement and self-care.

"Flora redefines healing as transformation: honouring pain while creating beauty, dignity, empowerment, and hope for the life that comes after trauma."

Refracted Mind by Avery Gardner

Refracted Mind by Avery Gardner

"Refracted Mind is a collection of intimate living pieces inspired by stained glass and the flowing forms of Art Nouveau.

"Originating from observing a single window, a visual language evolves throughout the collection, appearing in different forms and materials.

"Curved wood, sculpted velvet and fluid metalwork reinterpret the connections, rhythms and craftsmanship of stained glass in furniture.

"As motif shifts from piece to piece, the collection explores the ways a single form can be transformed, abstracted and diluted to make a world of its own."
