Foster + Partners Industrial Design has developed a showroom concept for British motorcycle brand Norton Motorcycles, including sleek metal display stands that present the vehicles like sculptures on a plinth.

The retail experience was developed as part of Norton Motorcycles' ongoing rebranding project, which aims to emphasise the company's engineering heritage while promoting a modern, global outlook.

Norton Motorcycles approached the design arm of the architecture firm established by Norman Foster to help develop a retail concept that would redefine how its motorcycles are presented and experienced by customers.

"Motorcycles at their best are emotional, sculptural objects of desire," said the company's chief creative advisor, Gerry McGovern, who steered the project in collaboration with Foster + Partners.

"In our experiential stores, they will be presented in environments that reflect their precision and modernity."

The vehicles are displayed on individual podiums with a futuristic aesthetic that aims to highlight their craftsmanship, engineering and sculptural qualities.

Each podium integrates practical features, such as overhead lighting to illuminate the aerodynamic forms, along with storage drawers and an open cabinet for displaying accessories and equipment.

"Norton's history is rooted in design, engineering and craftsmanship," said Foster. "Our design concept seeks to be a contemporary expression of the company's heritage and the timeless character of its motorcycles."

The retail concept was designed to work across a wide range of formats and scales, from compact showrooms to flagship destinations.

The modular system can adapt to its context by incorporating various supporting features such as digital and interactive displays, as well as areas for configuring bespoke machines.

Norton Motorcycles plans to eventually roll out the concept to over 200 stores globally, starting with flagship locations across key global markets.

"Working in collaboration with Foster + Partners, we are placing in-store design and architecture at the heart of our resurgence, elevating our retail experience in a way that is clean, modern and compellingly desirable," McGovern added.

"The ambition is not merely to sell motorcycles, but to stage them – elevating their purchase from transaction to experience."

Norton Motorcycles was founded in 1898 and is known for its participation in events such as the Isle of Man TT race, as well as for its historical models including the Manx, Atlas and Navigator.

The brand was acquired by India's TVS Motor Company in 2020, which has invested in a new manufacturing facility in England as well as a visual identity and retail strategy aimed at reestablishing Norton Motorcycles as a producer of some of the world's most desirable motorcycles.

Foster + Partners Industrial Design develops products and projects for global clients, ranging from furniture and lighting to building components and transportation.

Among the projects completed by the studio, which rebranded and launched a dedicated website in 2025, are a collection of stackable tableware and a simple wooden chair informed by the efficient shape of an oar.
