Czechia, popularly known as the Czech Republic, is a country immersed in natural beauty and iconic monumental architecture, such as the St. Vitus Cathedral and the Church of St. Nicholas in Prague. The country’s architectural scene also has its fair share of modernist influences, including Austrian-Czechoslovak architect Adolf Loos, famous for his Villa Müller in Prague. This particular project demonstrated the “Raumplan” or spatial plan, one of the methods he developed to organize interior space, prioritizing function followed by form.
In the late 20th century, being thoroughly influenced by the postmodern Deconstructivist movement, architects Vlado Milunić and Frank Gehry designed the Dancing House, disrupting Prague’s architectural fabric. Since then, Czech architects have completed many extension projects that (sometimes literally) “touch” upon the language of historic buildings. Examples include the Orangery at Prague Castle, a modern greenhouse next to the Royal Palace, designed by Eva Jiřičná, as well as the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in Prague, an adaptive reuse project that has turned a former factory into a dynamic cultural venue, pushing forward Czechia’s urban regeneration practices and architectural innovation.
With so many architecture firms to choose from, it’s challenging for clients to identify the industry leaders that will be an ideal fit for their project needs. Fortunately, Architizer is able to provide guidance on the top design firms in Czechia based on more than a decade of data and industry knowledge.
How are these architecture firms ranked?
The following ranking has been created according to key statistics that demonstrate each firm’s level of architectural excellence. The following metrics have been accumulated to establish each architecture firm’s ranking, in order of priority:
- The number of A+Awards won (2013 to 2025)
- The number of A+Awards finalists (2013 to 2025)
- The number of projects selected as “Project of the Day” (2009 to 2025)
- The number of projects selected as “Featured Project” (2009 to 2025)
- The number of projects uploaded to Architizer (2009 to 2025)
Each of these metrics is explained in more detail at the foot of this article. This ranking list will be updated annually, taking into account new achievements of Czechia architecture firms throughout the year.
Without further ado, here are the 35 best architecture firms in Czechia:
35. Uhlik Architekti

© Uhlik Architekti
The architectural office Uhlík architekti was founded in 2009 following the division of Atelier UM, which was established by Petr Uhlík and Martin Matyska in 2001. We provide comprehensive services for all stages of project documentation, from concept studies to author supervision during construction. We work across all areas of architecture: from urban planning and new builds to renovations, interiors, and design.
We strive to create better living environments. The goal may seem simple: to design and build a straightforward, intelligent, and perfectly functional house with good spatial qualities, reasonable costs, and a place where people feel comfortable. A house well integrated into its surroundings. However, achieving this is not easy. Rapid technological developments significantly transform and complicate buildings. Even just keeping all components together and in balance is a demanding task. We seek to find appropriate forms for new needs, materials, and technologies while preserving the essential qualities of the past.
“Culture is maintenance.” The values of the past must be protected and built upon—this is the most responsible task. We also pay great attention to detail, but it must remain balanced with the overall building. We believe it is important to maintain common sense and perspective. Truly listening to the client must not be an empty phrase but a working method, the cornerstone of our design process.
Some of Uhlik Architekti’s most prominent projects include:
- FOREST retreat, České Budějovice, Czechia

Walter Gropius already had a practical approach to teaching when, in his 1939 statement “Training the Architect”, he stressed that “the young architect of today needs to be trained in the use of tools and materials” rather than being tied to “blood-less drawing board and the phantom of tradition.”

We look for the authenticity hidden in every task. We always start from scratch, try to avoid the usual architectural clichés and reinvent the core basics in slightly different tones and moods. Our approach is based on interconnecting the physical and metaphysical layers of a project, resonating form and content and engaging sculptural methods with conceptual tendencies. We consider the initiation of projects to be part of our work, reflecting not only architectural, but also programme, content and social aspects. The spectrum of our designs is wide, from detailed artistic projects, such as memorials and unique museum expositions, to individual housing designed to the last detail, to specific projects, such as a church, airport, cruise boat terminal, floating pool, vast administration buildings, etc.

We have known each other quite a long time. Our first collaboration as ATELIER 111 architekti dates back to our studies at Faculty of Architecture of Czech Technical University in Prague. Our first success, a special prize in an open architectural competition for treatment of urban space in the city of Tábor in 2002, gave us passion and motivation for further projects. In following years our studio began to expand. Through cooperation with experienced colleagues, we enriched our professional skills. Aside from architectural design of residential, public and industrial buildings, we have been focused on projects of biogas plants since 2006.
