Theo folding chair by Matteo Thun and Benedetto Fasciana for Plank
Dezeen Showroom: Italian architect Matteo Thun and designer Benedetto Fasciana have collaborated on a wooden chair for Italian furniture brand Plank that can easily be folded away when not in use.
Made from moulded plywood with an oak veneer, the Theo folding chair was designed for the contract sector, but its simple design is also useful for hospitality venues, restaurants, multifunctional spaces and homes.
"Wood, the absolute protagonist, brings warmth, solidity and elegance, making Theo suitable not only for professional settings but also for residential spaces, where furniture is not merely an accessory but an integral part of the environment," said Plank.
"The various available finishes broaden interpretative possibilities, allowing the chair to interact with different styles and atmospheres."
"In Theo, the foldable function is seamlessly integrated, without compromising the balance of proportions or the aesthetic quality of the design," it continued. "The result is a seat that retains the presence and comfort of a permanent piece of furniture, while offering maximum flexibility of use."
Created to have a timeless appearance that can easily be folded away to suit the changing needs of spaces, Theo comes in a natural wood finish or in colour lacquered finishes, including walnut, brown red, olive green and black.
Its folding mechanism is available in stainless steel, natural or black oxidised finishes, and there is also an optional seat cushion available in Moessmer wool, textile or leather.
