Task to design sauna on Icelandic lake among the latest Dezeen Competitions

Dezeen Competitions: we've rounded up five architecture and design competitions that are open for entries into the new year, including designing a sauna and greenhouse in Lake Mývatn, Iceland.
Other competitions include a call to create two bespoke benches for Tooting Bec in London, and a competition that tasks designers with rejuvenating Sant'Anna in Gorizia, Italy.

Springfield Village Public Seating Open Call
AND London and Barratt London have launched a competition asking designers to create two bespoke benches for Tooting Bec in London.
The seating should be created with practicality and accessibility in mind, and should consider wellbeing and the destigmatisation of mental health.
Applications should be sent to springfieldvillage@andlondon.net by 12 January 2026.

TerraViva has launched the Karlovo Living Landscape competition, seeking plans for a low-rise neighbourhood in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia.
The competition invites architects, urban designers and landscape designers to outline a residential district incorporating pedestrian pathways, gardens and small plazas.
Submissions can be made via the online portal by 20 February 2026.

Re-Gen Gorizia – A new Urban Concept for Sant'Ann
For TerraViva's Re-Gen Gorizia competition, designers are asked to create plans to rejuvenate the residential area of Sant'Anna in Gorizia, Italy.
Proposals should make the neighbourhood more accessible and connect fragmented zones.
Plans can be submitted to the online portal by 17 April 2026.

Buildner asks for a climate-resilient sauna and greenhouse retreat to be designed for Lake Mývatn in the north of Iceland.
The project should reflect the nature of the lake, and explore how "space, material and atmosphere can heighten the rhythm between warmth, silence and growth".
All submissions should be sent by 11 May 2026 via the online portal.

Buildner also presents the Rome Rain Rooms competition, seeking proposals for water storage and distribution facilities in cities, which protect against rising water.
The proposal seeks small pavilions that can harvest and store rainwater and direct the liquid to trees, gardens and non-potable fountains.
