Oval coffee table by Tom Black

Dezeen Showroom: interior designer Tom Black looked to the arches and domes of Italian cities when crafting the swooping walnut legs of this veneer-topped coffee table.

The coffee table was aptly named Oval by Australian creative Tom Black, thanks to its burl-patterned, oval-shaped tabletop and arcing walnut legs.

The table's veneered top is an homage to the swirly patterned material originally designed by Memphis Group founder Ettore Sottsass in the 1980s.

"The Oval coffee table is an exploration of material combinations and tonal contrasts," said Black.

"The sweeping legs were interpreted from the arches and domes of the squares of Florence and look to replicate their essence," he added.
