Promotion: bathroom brand Laufen has unveiled Vitreon steel, a surface material that blends the latest bathroom innovation with Swiss craftsmanship, technology and precision.

The addition of Vitreon steel adds to Laufen's premium bathroom range with a collection of washbasins that offer darker tones, metallic warmth and "an architectural rhythm".

Vitreon steel has a "deep, atmospheric palette" that combines dark marble tones with rich metallic colourways, giving bathrooms a striking, contemporary aesthetic.

"Material, colour and light merge in a new warm and refined visual and photographic language composed of vibrant surfaces, unprecedented tactile effects and chromatic accents," said Laufen.

Vitreon steel is designed to be as strong and malleable as steel, yet have a smooth glass-like texture.

"Characterised by refined geometries, sophisticated finishes and subtle colour play, this glazed steel offers a new tactile experience and timeless aesthetic that seamlessly complements the Laufen bathroom identity," the brand said.

Laufen explained that, for modern interiors where durability and hygiene are of the utmost importance, the material offers ease of maintenance thanks to its pore-free surface, which resists the accumulation of dirt and bacteria.

It is also designed to be scratch-resistant and corrosion-protected, ensuring washbasins are robust against damage and built to last.

"Vitreon steel expands our material vocabulary in a very exciting way," said Marc Viardot, corporate marketing and design director at Roca Group.

"This high-precision, durable technology enables us to push the boundaries of developing the most innovative and sustainable bathroom solutions."

Vitreon steel will be available from January 2026 and joins Laufen's portfolio of high-end materials, alongside Saphirkeramik, the ultra-thin, high-performance ceramic developed in-house.

Together with Laufen's furniture, fittings and longstanding ceramic expertise, these materials form a cohesive system that supports integrated bathroom design across a wide range of architectural contexts.

Laufen added that both Saphirkeramik and Vitreon spotlight its focus on developing materials that offer designers a broad spectrum of options, which can come in "unlimited possibilities across forms, typologies and spatial configurations".

"For architects and interior designers, this expanded interplay of colours and finishes opens new possibilities for creating cohesive compositions across residential and contract spaces," said the brand.
