Viriato crafts luxurious furnishings for Rosewood hotel in Amsterdam

Promotion: Portuguese furniture studio Viriato has created bespoke furniture and joinery for the Rosewood Amsterdam hotel, aiming to combine Dutch heritage with contemporary design.

Viriato manufactured and installed the hotel's furnishings, which were designed to reflect the values of high-quality craftsmanship held by Hong Kong-based hotelier Rosewood Hotels.

The Rosewood Amsterdam is located in Amsterdam's former Palace of Justice, following a recent renovation by architecture studio Aedas.

The hotel's interiors were designed by Dutch design practice Studio Piet Boon, with which Viriato collaborated closely to achieve unified spaces.

The hotel is situated in a listed building, and it is the last hotel development permitted to be built within a protected heritage building in Amsterdam. According to Viriato, this raised challenges with site access and heritage protection requirements.

A range of luxurious materials was applied throughout the hotel, including delicate textile upholstery and stone surfaces where veined patterns were carefully aligned across slabs.

Rooms in the Rosewood Amsterdam vary in design, but each has a bold headboard of varying shapes and colours in the bedroom.

Bathrooms feature geometric sink countertops made from different types of marble, which were contrasted with round and organically shaped mirrors above.

"As a company rooted in the values of artistry and attention to detail, it was an honour to contribute to a project of such historical and cultural significance," said Viriato head of commercial Carla Rocha.
