Tom Black lists five of his products on Dezeen Showroom

Dezeen Showroom: Australian interior designer Tom Black has published products from his first furniture collection on Dezeen Showroom, which have curving forms and contrasting material pairings in common.
One of the sculptural highlights of Collection 01, the Tulip chair is made of a combination of marble and orbital-brushed stainless steel.

Black channels the two hard materials into unexpectedly supple forms, with a curved cylinder of marble serving as the top rail and panels of steel wrapping around the seat like the petals of a budding flower to form the legs and backrest.
A striking accent piece, the Tulip chair is being manufactured through Black's furniture studio, T Black Atelier, as are the other items in Collection 01.

The designer's exploration of soft forms continues in the Lounge Chair 01 and Sofa 01, which feature exaggerated curves informed by the arches and domes present in Italian architecture.
Upholstered in a choice of fabrics in earthy neutral shades, the seating designs combine references to monumental stone buildings with a sense of contemporary elegance.

The seating sits harmoniously alongside Black's Coffee Table 01 + Side Table 01, which feature slabs of classic pale travertine stone with a contrastingly modern stainless steel inlay.
The furrow in the tables' surface is both decorative and functional, protecting objects placed there from being easily knocked off.

Another seating design is the Ghezzi chair. Here, Black takes a more experimental approach, looping a long, velvety upholstered frame on top of itself to create an expressively layered shape.
Once again, Italy served as a source of inspiration for Black, who based the shape on the curved fonts on that country's traditional handwritten signage.

As in the Coffee Table 01 + Side Table 01, with the Oval coffee table, Black looked to arches and domes as a reference, translating them into dramatic, swooping walnut legs.
An oval-shaped stainless steel top is finished with grey timber veneer, which is richly patterned and meant to recall the burl wood used by Memphis Group founder Ettore Sottsass.

Tom Black is a Brisbane-based interior designer who works across retail, wellness, residential, workplace and hospitality sectors with his studio T Black.
He set up the T Black Atelier to produce furniture based on work developed in the interior design practice and to explore his personal design language.
