Nova pendant lamp by Esben Bala Skouboe for Frandsen

Dezeen Showroom: designer Esben Bala Skouboe drew on the golden ratio, a pattern found throughout nature, when designing this sculptural pendant lamp for Danish brand Frandsen.
The Nova lamp is made of eight spiralling cones, whose shape comes from principles of the golden ratio – a pattern observed throughout the natural world in seashells, flowers and even galaxies.

In Nova, the cones face outwards from a central core, and their material composition of semi-translucent PMMA plastic creates a soft gradient of light and shadow within each segment.
Skouboe is a Danish designer with a strong background in academia, including a PhD in responsive lighting design, and Nova reflects his converging interests in art, design and science.

"Crafted by the visionary Danish designer Esben Bala Skouboe, Nova is the true embodiment of its name – a new star in the world of decorative lighting," said Frandsen.
The Nova pendant is crafted in Fransden's workshops in Horsens, Denmark, using sophisticated moulds that the company says show its innovative spirit in action.
