Dezeen Awards has added eight new categories for 2025, including ones aimed at better supporting emerging and smaller studios.
Early career projects such as house extensions, kitchen and bathroom renovations have been added, as well as categories for bespoke commissions.
We have also added a category for collectible design in response to the increasing prominence of this design discipline.
Read on below for more information on each new category:

House extension
We're looking for outstanding extensions, no matter what the size. We know this is where newly founded practices let their creative juices flow, meaning they're often among architects' early projects.
We want to shine a spotlight on rising talent and showcase more complex additions that make a dramatic difference to a home.
For inspiration, check out these house extensions, ranging from a vertically extended home informed by treehouses in New Zealand and an addition using patterned breeze blocks in Australia to smaller-scale projects in south London, including a single-storey addition using low carbon material and a colourful loft extension with yellow architraves.

Bar and cafe interior
We see so many brilliant cafes at Dezeen Awards that we wanted to create a dedicated category to recognise this often smaller type of interior. Coffee shops, tea rooms and bakeries can be submitted into this category, alongside bar designs.
Be inspired by this teahouse clad in bricks made from earth and tea leaves in Beijing, a mobile pop-up cafe made from grain sacks in Hangzhou and a bakery and wine bar with a matcha-green counter in Milan.
Also, check out these striking bars, including a walnut-panelled listening bar in London, a mood-lit cocktail bar in Vancouver and a monochrome bar with a record library in Sydney.

Kitchen interior
The kitchen is one of the hardest working rooms in the house, fulfilling its role as both a social area and a practical workspace. Our new kitchen interior category is a great opportunity to have your project championed.
We're keen to see bold, tactile and characterful kitchens that create a statement or centrepiece in a new or existing home, apartment or commercial interior.
Take inspiration from this custom-built kitchen clad in stainless steel to mimic fast food outlets in London, a kitchen renovation with oak cabinetry and oxblood-coloured tiles in New York, and this Madrid apartment featuring a pared-back kitchen aesthetic.

Bathroom interior
Have you designed a dream bathroom? Whether your bathroom features contemporary tiles, a statement tub, a stylish washbasin or sculptural furniture, we're looking for innovative design solutions for any bathroom or washroom interior!
Examples of bathrooms that could be included in this category range from a lavish members club in London, an art deco-style apartment in Milan and restrooms lit in bright green and yellow in Tokyo, to contemporary examples including a green plastered washroom in Belgium and minimalist bathroom with stainless steel basin in Italy.

Collectible design
Our new collectible design category recognises the rising prominence of this design discipline across the industry since its inception in the early 2000s. We've created a specific category to acknowledge and reward this new generation of designers.
Furniture, lighting and accessories (including limited editions or one-off products) that celebrate craftsmanship, originality and artistic expression can be entered into this category.
An ultra-glossy furniture collection made from polished fibreglass by Italian designer Marco Campardo, a chair made of discarded instruments by Seattle-based designer Jay Sae Jung Oh and a cartoonish collection of furniture by designer Teun Zwets are all examples of the type of projects that could be entered into this category.

Bespoke design
We recognise that not all designs are mass-produced, meaning that this category focuses solely on bespoke commissions and can include individual furniture, lighting or product design pieces.
A series of valet stands with hand-crafted details by architecture studio Red Deer and designer Jan Hendzel Studio and this collection of sculptural metal candle holders by designers including Patricia Urquiola, Jaime Hayon and Marcel Wanders are great examples for this new category.

Product design (bathroom)
From the spa-room trend to statement pieces designed to add a wow factor to the bathroom, well-designed bathroom products are key to making these projects a success.
To celebrate this, we are looking for stand-out products designed exclusively for bathrooms, washrooms or toilets, such as baths, showers, toilets, sinks, and taps, as well as built-in furniture.
Examples include this brightly coloured collection of taps, shown above, by Spanish designer Inma Bermúdez and Samuel Ross's attention-grabbing toilet for Kohler.
The category could also showcase collections such as this range of glazed titanium steel fittings by bathroom brand Bette, a tap characterised by cylindrical forms by German brand Grohe and a selection of brushed gold fittings by bathroom brand Lusso.

Residential interior
We've split this category into small and large interiors for homes above or below 100 square metres, meaning similar-sized projects will be judged together – doubling your chances of winning!
We're keen to see projects of all scales, from micro homes such as this Tokyo home measuring just 31 square metres to an expansive remodelling such as this London coach house with blue plywood staircase or this light-filled interior, shown above, in Melbourne.
