This week on Dezeen, we reported that Olympic organisers are considering alternative hosts for the 2029 Asian Winter Games, due to concerns that Neom's Trojena ski resort won't be ready in time.
The organisers have reportedly approached South Korea to sound out whether the country could host the winter sports event, which is currently planned to take place at the as-yet-unbuilt Trojena ski resort in Saudi Arabia.
Last week, several publications suggested that Neom was struggling to complete the resort on the current timeline, despite a spokesperson for Neom confirming that work on Trojena was progressing on a "phased plan".
Over in the US, restaurant chain Cracker Barrel faced intense backlash from online commenters, who weren't satisfied with the minimalist redesign of its 1970s logo.
Fans of the Southern country-themed eatery, including US president Donald Trump, took to the internet to air their grievances over the new logo, which involved the removal of a salesman character sitting on a wicker chair and resting his arm on a barrel.
Cracker Barrel has since announced that it will scrap its new logo and keep the original one, after consumers' negative response caused the restaurant's shares to nosedive.
Trump made further headlines on Thursday by signing an executive order intent on Making Federal Architecture Beautiful Again.
The order makes classical architecture the preferred style for new civic buildings in the USA and builds on the Promoting Beautiful Federal Civic Architecture executive order, which the president signed on his first day back in office.
Also on Dezeen this week, University of Kentucky architecture professor Leen Katrib penned an opinion piece on why she teaches her students not to follow the example of influential modernist architect Mies van der Rohe.
Katrib, who works to uncover the impact of higher-education buildings on urban areas, argued that van der Rohe's legacy "is inextricably entangled with the racialised restructuring of American cities".
In design news, contributing editor Rima Sabina Aouf reviewed four of the best contemporary dumbphones for a digital detox, with contenders from Nokia and Jasper Morrison.
Dumbphones feature deliberately pared-back functionality and a minimal internet connection, in the hopes of allowing users to feel more connected to other parts of their lives.
Another device that reimagines digital interactions and captured the attention of our readers this week is Kitchen Cosmo.
The retrofuturistic kitchen robot, created by students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), uses AI to generate recipes based on a set of ingredients, while allowing users to tweak the difficulty, portion size and "mood" via a menagerie of buttons and switches.
Popular projects this week included a Victorian home renovation in London by Material Works and a perforated brick house in Brisbane, Australia, by local architect Peter Besley.
Our latest lookbook collected eight homes in former factories that echo their industrial past.
