Promotion: global ergonomic brand Secretlab has expanded its series of adjustable furniture accessories, which intend to demonstrate its dedication to expanding the range of activities that users can comfortably undertake at their workspace.
The brand's Footrest and Legrest Collection, which includes its Secretlab Ergonomic Recliner Add-On, Secretlab Professional Footrest and Secretlab OTTO Adjustable Legrest, supports targeted areas of the body while sitting at a desk.
The company explained that its latest releases are fully compatible with its award-winning chairs, sharing the same focus on adjustability and wellbeing, which adapt to users' natural movements when seated.
According to Secretlab, this aligns with its design philosophy, which aims to give users more freedom to adjust their sitting positions throughout the day while still providing ergonomic support.
"The activities people do at their desks today are so different compared to 30 years ago," said the head of industrial design at Secretlab, Vincent Sin. "We've gone from just typing at our desks to gaming, watching a video, taking a call, and so much more."
"It's why we've made our chairs incredibly versatile so users can adopt the most optimal posture for the task at hand," the designer continued. "And now, our dedicated accessories are a natural extension of that. Each product gives you targeted support, such as your calves and feet, opening up an even wider range of sitting postures."
The collection's Ergonomic Recliner Add-On was launched in October 2024 and has quickly become one of the brand's best sellers.
The accessory is designed to turn any Secretlab chair into a full-fledged recliner. It has dedicated calf support and enables users to customise their sitting experience by giving them the ability to precisely adjust the degree of support depending on the activity.
"We wanted this to be the most versatile recliner, taking an intentional step away from some of the more static supports we've seen on the market," said Sin.
The collection's Professional Footrest is designed with the same principles in mind. The product includes a "dynamic mode", which allows users to rock their feet back and forth, encouraging them to move when they are seated.
The latest addition to the brand's accessory range is the OTTO Adjustable Legrest, which was designed to "bring the ease of lounging to your desk".
Sin explained that, similarly to the brand's other accessories, the development of the leg rest stemmed from the team's observations of sitting behaviour and desire to produce a product to encourage changes in sitting position, which helps prevent pain, discomfort and injury.
"We noticed people were improvising ways to prop their feet up when they sat at their desks," explained Sin. "They used stools, boxes, and even strung pieces of cloth to resemble a hammock, which tend to be flimsy and don’t offer the right angles for comprehensive support."
"Meanwhile, conventional legrests out there tend to have limited adjustments, so your legs are forced into one fixed position," he continued. "We want to create a product that replicates the relief you feel when you put your feet up after a long day, and more importantly, one that you can tailor to the exact way you want to sit."
The product has five different incline settings and infinite height adjustments between 39 and 47 centimetres.
Secretlab explained that it works closely with its Ergonomic Advisory Board of independent experts and conducts extensive user testing. It intends to continue to develop ergonomic solutions for different use cases.
"The products we use at our workstations subconsciously influence the way we behave and our habits," said Sin.
"By creating products that offer a wide degree of adjustability that can be tailored to the user and activity, we want to encourage users to actively switch things up and move when they’re seated – and we are building solutions to match different habits and needs one accessory at a time."
