Promotion: New Zealand design brand Resident has unveiled a new collection of furniture and lighting during this year's 3 Days of Design in Copenhagen.

Launched during the design festival, which takes place from 18 to 20 June 2025 in the Danish capital, the new pieces span seven separate product families.

This is the largest simultaneous launch of new furniture and lighting since the brand was established in 2011.

The collections are the result of numerous collaborations between Resident and celebrated international designers, including Note Design Studio, ASCA, Tim Rundle, Jamie McLellan, Daniel Schofield and Michael Young.

Read on to discover Residents' distinct new products, which are displayed in an immersive installation called Viewpoint, which is informed by the tonal palette of New Zealand's landscape.

The exhibition, designed in collaboration with Note Design Studio, takes place at Borgergade 17D, Copenhagen.

Sophisticated internal joinery supports the cantilevered seat of this solid timber chair by acclaimed New Zealand designer Jamie McLellan.

The Plane Lounge Chair has 28 kilogrammes of solid oak and a geometric form that comprises block-like elements carefully balanced atop one another.

"This chair is a striking combination of form and function, designed to stand the test of time, and built to be passed down through generations," said Resident.

Another Jamie McLellan creation launching during 3 Days of Design is the Little Fellas, a compact collection of solid oak furniture consisting of three side tables and a coat stand. Each piece is designed to be "direct, functional and sculptural" in its form.

The pieces share similar motifs, including flack-pack assembly, timber materiality and exposed joinery.

"The Little Fellas embrace simplicity," said Resident. "Whether standing solo or gathered together, they find their place with ease – they are uncomplicated, well-built and full of character."

The Radio Chair, created by industrial designer Tim Rundle, is made up of a strong but lightweight frame, making it suitable for a variety of environments, including the home and high-traffic public spaces.

The chair comes as standard in a black stain or a natural lacquer and can be purchased in any other colour upon request. The seat can also be upholstered in a wide range of fabrics.

"Slightly more generous than expected, the proportions are fine-tuned for everyday use, from long dinners at home to high-traffic hospitality settings," said Resident.

Daniel Schofield's compact Vent Pendant is sandcasted in New Zealand and consists of two metal volumes made from either bronze or aluminium.

The conical form projects a thick beam of light downwards, which seeps out of the gap between itself and the lower cone-shaped volume.

"By pushing light back onto itself, the design quietly reveals the depth and texture of its material," said Resident. "Whether suspended alone or in a series, the Vent Pendant lends a brutal but considered presence to any interior."

The second pendant light being released during the festival is British industrial designer Michael Young's Drift Pendant, which appears to float thanks to the slim wires that affix it to the ceiling.

Informed by pebble-shaped stone paving, the light's smooth and soft textured surface is evenly illuminated by internal lighting elements.

"Drift's refined presence quietly enhances each space with gentle, ethereal illumination," said Resident.

The Cadre collection includes a chair and a stool characterised by tension between a curved, upholstered seat and a rigid, constructivist frame.

The seat is equipped with hidden fixings to appear as though it floats above the frame, while the negative space between the seat and base is designed to give the piece a strong architectural presence.

"Cadre sits effortlessly between form and function – the pieces are timeless, versatile, and quietly expressive," said Resident.

The voluminous Avant Lounge Chair has a soft geometry and shows Resident's commitment to producing furniture that merges sculptural presence with everyday function.

The chair is defined by its overhanging arms and oversized swivel base, which is designed to "be an exercise in proportion, shadow and negative space".

"Avant's strong silhouette makes it ideal as a statement piece in bold, expressive interiors, while its careful detailing allows it to sit quietly and confidently in more pared-back settings," said Resident.
