Dezeen Showroom: dramatic veins of Patagonia granite are illuminated in the Penedo cabinet designed by furniture brand Greenapple.
The Penedo cabinet is made from a combination of stone, brass and highly knotted oak root wood, creating a rich palette of materials that is emphasised through the integration of backlighting.
The cabinet is the design of Greenapple co-founder and creative director Rute Martins, who takes inspiration from nature and the craft traditions of her home country of Portugal.
"The Penedo Cabinet embodies the architecture of nature shaped solely by time, much like the landscape seen from the Miradouro do Penedo in Portugal," said Greenapple.
Made in Portugal by skilled craftspeople, the Penedo cabinet is customisable in both dimensions and finishes, and the Patagonia granite can be swapped out for other stones with appropriate veining, such as Onyx and Calacatta.
The brand intends for the piece to become a family heirloom that can be passed down from generation to generation.
