Acoustic solutions brand Autex Acoustics showcased Bring the Outside In, an immersive forest-like installation that featured the brand's signature acoustic material, during LA Design Festival in downtown Los Angeles.

The installation, which was made from 80 per cent recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET), was part of a wider sensory exhibition called The Waves of Change.

This incorporated the same recycled material and aimed to explore the brand's material innovation within the context of a built environment.

The installation, which the brand described as an "acoustic forest" in a video for Dezeen, was designed in alignment with LA Design Festival's larger theme of Design Futurism.

The multi-sensory exhibition hosted by Autex Acoustics included a large-scale visual interpretation of a waveform called The Waves of Change, designed to reimagine acoustic material as sculptural art.

Also featured was a custom mural installation made with the same 80 per cent recycled PET called The Rhythms of LA by designers India Chand and Hillary Huang, which paid homage to the city's history of mural design and street art, and showcased the brand's material capabilities.

On display in a separate room was an installation titled Autex Is, a walk-through presentation exploring the 60 years since the brand's New Zealand origins and its future commitments to circularity.

The exhibition also included a 'salon' space for visitors to rest and relax, featuring furniture selected by Los Angeles-based furniture curator Bask, including a rug by Dutch brand Moooi and a chair by Spanish furniture brand Andreu World.

An interactive installation called Closing the Loop in the centre of the exhibition demonstrated the brand's material lifecycle, inviting visitors to touch and feel the materials used in the brand's product lifecycle, from recycled plastic bottle flakes to reclaimed pellet waste repurposed into accessory products.

The colour palette for the exhibition was influenced by the culture of Southern California, with muted earth tones and shades inspired by the ocean.

Autex Acoustics and Dezeen co-hosted a party in the brand's showroom and exhibition space to kick-start LA Design Festival, which brought together members of the Los Angeles design community.

Additional events included a sustainable jewellery-making workshop with LA-based Vintage Jewellery designer House of Spider and a panel discussion co-hosted by architecture firm HOK titled 'The Future of Sustainable Workplace Design', which discussed themes ranging from neurodiversity to circularity and material innovation.

The Waves of Change took place from 26 to 29 June 2025 at Autex's showroom in Downtown Los Angeles.
