Offecct Circulus modular seating system by Mario Ferrarini for Flokk

Dezeen Showroom: Italian designer Mario Ferrarini and Flokk-owned furniture brand Offecct aimed to bring character to modular public seating systems with Circulus.

The Circulus seating system features slender upholstered planes folded like origami and a perforated coloured metal frame that peeks through the undersides, giving it a distinctive look.

Ferrarini and Offecct aimed for flexibility, durability and a signature style with the design, while also considering circularity from material sourcing to end-of-life.

"As is so often the case, the solution involved the consistent reduction and precise coordination of individual parts," said Offecct.

The elegant final product involves three modules – a seat, mid-height backrest and high backrest. These can be arranged to create a variety of configurations, including one-, two- or three-seater sofas, as well as versions where the seats face each other.

The punched metal frame has the benefit of facilitating good air circulation, while a specially designed perimeter clip fastens upholstery to the frame without adhesives, allowing for easy colour customisation and fabric replacement.
