Design brand Teklan Studio has created a geometric textile flooring collection for Italian carpet brand Radici that was designed as "a love letter to the atmospheres of the past".

Newstalgia was created by the studio's designer Tekla Evelina Severin to reinvent the elaborate patterns of the 1970s and 80s. It has been longlisted in the textile design category of Dezeen Awards 2025.

The collection aims to give a fresh perspective on nostalgic design with geometric patterns that play with colour and proportion.

The carpets comes in eight patterns and spotlight Severin's signature style, pairing unusual colours together – such as peach and black with burgundy and baby blue.

"Newstalgia textile surface collection is a love letter to the atmospheres of the past, a re-invention of the 1970s and 1980s, and that energy, but designed for contemporary living," said Severin of her collection.

"It's also designed for the future," she added. "Applying wise, it's a flexible design, the scale and even the colours are possible and even intended to be customised to any architect's wish and any project premises of any upcoming decade."

The collection was prototyped on Bloom Back textile flooring, a custom-printed base developed by Radici.

To make the base, the brand used a regenerated nylon-based fabric called Econyl yarn, which is crafted from industrial waste such as fabric scraps and fishing nets.

According to Radici, its Bloom Back fabric is lightweight, soft and has acoustic properties, making it ideal for high-end contract and hospitality spaces.

"Made from 100 per cent regenerated nylon, Bloom Back not only supports creative freedom in design but also reflects a strong commitment to sustainability," said Severin.

"Its regenerated to be regenerable approach is a perfect example of circular economy in action."
