New Moon chair by Elora Hardy for Bamboo Pure
Dezeen Showroom: Ibuku architecture studio founder Elora Hardy has extended her work with bamboo from buildings to furniture in a collaboration with Indonesian brand Bamboo Pure, producing a sculptural chair.
The New Moon chair shares some of the qualities of a European steam-bent modern wood chair, with its elegantly curved backrest and angular frame.
At the same time, it also highlights some of the unique character of bamboo with its reeded texture and striking leg fronts, which are finished in solid black.
Hardy – who was born in Canada – and Bamboo Pure are both based on the Indonesian island of Bali, where Hardy has designed pioneering bamboo architecture including homes and a school with a complex double-curved roof.
Her New Moon chair highlights the strength of Balinese craftsmanship and the beauty of bamboo, which is generally regarded as more sustainable than traditional wood due to its rapid growth rate and lower environmental footprint.
"Shaped by curving lines and refined joinery, the chair carries both comfort and sculptural presence, embodying the delicate balance between function and artistry," said Bamboo Pure.
