Megalith table by Duffy London

Dezeen Showroom: steel blocks appear to teeter mid-fall in the bases of these sculptural, brutalist-informed tables by furniture brand Duffy London.

Duffy London founder Christopher Duffy looked to his interests in brutalist architecture and the visual aesthetics of Stanley Kubrick films – including A Clockwork Orange and 2001: A Space Odyssey – when designing the Megalith tables.

As well as these influences, he employed his signature playfulness and interest in illusion.

Thick glass tops crown heavy solid steel bases, which feature an assemblage of leaning rectangular blocks that look like they are caught mid-tumble like a row of dominoes.

"The megalith tables are a kind of celebration of a brutalist design and brutalist structure but also bring in my need to make it playful and illusionary, to bring a state of jeopardy and danger and impending doom and collapse to an object that is actually inherently stable," said Christopher Duffy.

Megalith is available as a coffee table, console table or dining table, and can also be ordered in bespoke sizes.
