Join and Mending fabric by Nanimarquina and Designtex

Dezeen Showroom: Spanish rug brand Nanimarquina worked with US company Designtex to create a duo of high-performance textiles for the contract market that have a crafted feel.
Join and Mending are both woven polyester upholstery fabrics that feature soft, natural colours and patterns designed to reflect the imperfect charm of human handiwork.

Mending is inspired by the act of stitching, combining a subtle grid pattern with patch-like shapes, while Join features soft-edged offset stripes, creating a look that is rhythmic and balanced but subdued.
"As designers, we have been huge fans of Nanimarquina [but] their dedication to craftsmanship and celebration of material is perhaps not always paramount in commercial materials," said Designtex VP of Design Catherine Stowell.
"This collaboration gave us the challenge of being able to translate those high-level craft cues into Join and Mending."

She explained that her team had worked to capture Nanimarquina's material sensibility by using performance yarns and embedding imperfections into the weaving process.
"The word that defines this collection for me is 'sincero', not just sincere, but deeply honest," added Nanimarquina founder Nani Marquina. "You can feel that in the materials, the process, and the intention."
