Promotion: Indonesia Design Week has announced its second annual event, which will take place in the Indonesia Design District PIK2 this September.
Following its successful debut last year, Indonesia Design Week (IDW) is set to return – hosting installations, exhibitions and workshops by local and international designers, architects and brands across Jakarta that spotlight Indonesia as an emerging design hub.
"As the largest design and furniture centre in Indonesia, Indonesia Design District (IDD) aspires to be a catalyst for creativity by offering an inclusive space that actively connects industry players, fosters collaboration, and drives sustainable growth," IDW said.
"In line with this vision, IDW serves as a platform that brings together local and international perspectives – highlighting how design functions as a universal language that connects ideas, communities, and cultures across borders."
Taking place from 12 to 20th September, the Indonesia Design Week will be informed by the event's guiding principle of "crafting connection, inspiring tomorrow of Indonesian design" and will operate under the theme of Ideantity – a term that explores how design can influence idea and identity.
The event is open to all individuals and organisations involved in design, including professionals, students, studios, brands and institutions, both local and international.
According to IDW, its theme was also chosen to reflect the country's growing role as an "active contributor" to global design, as well as to "amplify Indonesia's unique character".
"[The theme] reinforces IDW's mission to define a distinct and confident Indonesian voice on the international stage," the organiser explained. "IDW offers a fresh perspective shaped by its regional context, cultural diversity, and openness to global dialogue."
The event is set to host a series of immersive design installations created through collaborations between Indonesian designers and global brands such as Snaidero, Smeg, Kohler and Bosch.
Several curated showcases will also be on display, including the Millimetre Manifesto, which will feature work by nine Indonesian product designers.
Complementing the event's brand-driven collaborations will be exhibitions by local designers and collectives, as well as a student exhibition to spotlight emerging talent.
"These creative collaborations exemplify Indonesia's evolving role as not just a design destination, but as an imaginative collaborator of global relevance," IDW said.
"The showcases spotlight the experimental and conceptual side of Indonesian creativity, reinforcing the country's position as a hub of emerging design perspectives."
Alongside its showcases, the event will hold a Sip & Tip event organised by furniture maker BIKA Living, where design professionals will serve drinks and food, with all tips donated to charity.
The event is supported by the Ministry of Creative Economy. Its media partners include Dezeen and magazine Design Anthology, which will host "insightful design dialogues" throughout the nine-day event.
