Hand-sculpted planters by Gray Gardens
Dezeen Showroom: US- and Lebanon-based studio Gray Gardens has released a series of large-scale planters made from cement that aim to have a statuesque and handmade aesthetic.
Ranging in sizes up to four feet in height, Gray Gardens' planters are designed to sit between sculpture and architecture, anchoring spaces while bringing in the alluringly imperfect marks of human touch.
"We create hand-sculpted planters that enhance your experience of both the interior and exterior world," said Gray Gardens. "Our mission is to add intrigue to your green spaces – providing an element of savagery, as wild and poetic as the nature they house."
Gray Gardens was founded by US-born designer and artist Danya Ahmed, who began making planters while living in her native Lebanon, feeling inspired by the country's natural landscape and ways of life.
She now operates out of both countries and says the planters echo the visual language of the Mediterranean, from the eroded surfaces of its ancient ruins to the quiet solidity of its stone materials.
Gray Gardens' planters are made of glass fibre reinforced cement and available in a range of sizes and colours.
There are three different textured finishes – either horizontal stripes, vertical stripes or a natural, roughly smoothed surface.
