Gomo armchair by Hugo Passos for Fredericia

Dezeen Showroom: Danish furniture brand Fredericia and designer Hugo Passos aimed to meet the highest sustainability standards with this armchair, which features removable covers and minimal glue.

A new addition to the Gomo seating line, the Gomo armchair features an upholstered seat with a curvaceous wraparound armrest, plus a choice of three interchangeable bases: solid wood, steel tube or swivel.

Fredericia said it intended to merge residential warmth with contract-grade performance in the chair, while also hitting "a new standard in circular comfort". To that end, it is designed with a textile cover that naturally conforms to the shape of the chair but can be removed for easy cleaning or a style update.

At the same time, the moulded foam interior is secured with minimal glue so that the padding can be easily removed and replaced, prolonging the chair's life and enabling easy separation for recycling.

Fredericia says the chair's welcoming curves and base customisations make it suitable across home, office and hospitality environments.

"Hugo has also managed to incorporate a dash of inviting informality into what can usually be a rather stiff, technical and serious typology," said Fredericia CEO Rasmus Graversen. "The open arms allow for free movement, and the chair lets the person and the conversation take centre stage."
