Promotion: mosaic tile specialists Sicis have transformed a swimming pool at a villa in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, into "a living jewel" with its Vetrite surfaces and lighting technology.
Glowing, geometric patterns characterise the design of the pool, which forms the focal point of the exterior space at the Olympic Villa residence.
"Sicis transforms the pool into a living jewel: a luminous body that continuously shifts in colour and tone, turning every swim into a multisensory experience," said the brand.
To complement the villa's sculptural forms and golden accents, Sicis added large-format Gem Glass slabs to the floor of the swimming pool, which feature deep green background surfaces with light veining in mirrored patterns.
The glass slabs are part of Sicis's Vetrite collection, and are installed with a backlighting system that was developed in collaboration with lighting company Promotech Italia.
At Olympic Villa, an ultralow-voltage lighting technology designed for underwater environments, named Neptune, was installed under the glass slabs to illuminate the patterned surfaces.
"The heart of the system is Neptune, an ultralow-voltage lighting technology specifically designed for aquatic environments," said Sicis.
"This patented approach combines functionality, safety, and striking visual impact, creating a constantly changing kaleidoscope of reflections and depth."
By adding specialised lighting under the swimming pool, Sicis intended to accentuate the detailed patterns on the glass slabs.
"The slabs display layered hues of green, evoking the veins of natural stones, volcanic textures, and celestial terrains," said Sicis.
"The result is a luminous surface that plays with perception, each glance revealing new nuances and forms."
The Vetrite glass surfaces are available in a wide range of colours and patterns informed by precious stones.
According to the brand, Vetrite has a modular design that allows the slabs to be easily replaced without affecting the pool's water tightness, meaning future design changes and updates can be made without invasive work.
The slabs are resistant to UV light and chemicals, and have an anti-slip finish that improves grip in wet conditions.
"With this innovation, Sicis brings to life a new paradigm in pool design, one where light, material, and water converge to create immersive environments that go beyond function, becoming unforgettable experiences," said the company.
The side walls of the pool at the Olympic Villa were also lined with small glass mosaics from Sicis's Murano collection.
