Fisher & Paykel offers elevated simplicity with Minimal Style kitchen appliances
Promotion: atmospherically dark glass and seamless surfaces take centre stage in appliance brand Fisher & Paykel's Minimal Style kitchen products, designed to help build spaces with visual calm and formal rigour.
The Minimal appliances are one of three product design styles in Fisher & Paykel's luxury range, alongside Contemporary and Professional offerings.
The Minimal kitchen line includes handle- and dial-free ovens and flush-fitting cooktops, all designed with the same aim: to sit quietly within the kitchen and support continuous surface planes.
The Minimal appliances are set in contrast to the more expressive lines, brushed silver glass finish and defined controls of the Contemporary range. Together, both are designed to bring the "beauty of choice" to architects, designers and homeowners in the luxury market, according to Fisher & Paykel.
For the Minimal range, the New Zealand company focused not just on simplicity but the deeper formal goals of minimalism, applying scrutiny to "every line, proportion, material junction and surface transition" to reach an essential expression.
At the same time, its designers aspired to beauty, seeking to find poetry in the relationships between surfaces, finishes, light and shadow.
"As kitchens have become more central to the architecture of the home, expectations around integration and refinement have continued to evolve," said Fisher & Paykel head of industrial design (cooking) Adam Moody.
"Advances in materials, connectivity and manufacturing precision are allowing minimalist principles to be realised with new levels of precision and sophistication."
Fisher & Paykel's vision for the Minimal Style kitchen involves combining its ovens, hobs and complementary luxury cooking appliances with integration, concealing refrigeration, wine and dishwashing solutions behind cabinetry to build a calm and cohesive space.
To make the visible appliances contribute to the aesthetic, they are made of black or grey glass, giving them both an atmospheric presence and a sense that they are fading into the background. This also gives designers more freedom to explore colour, material and texture elsewhere in the space.
Seamless finishes are also prioritised, with flush installation, very fine two-millimetre perimeter gaps and designs that are free of handles or dials that would otherwise disrupt the surface plane.
"Where appliances remain visible, the visually recessive qualities of the style extend the intention of integration," said Moody. "It's an approach that draws on enduring principles of minimalist architecture and industrial design: find the essence of an object, then celebrate its form and tactility."
The designers have paid attention to detail to heighten the luxury quality of the products, including elements such as the movement of the oven door, the precise edge detailing and a picture-frame effect giving depth to the oven front.
Large, high-resolution touchscreen displays are designed for responsiveness, while voice control enables easy multitasking, and integration with the SmartHQ connected-home platform allows for remote control and monitoring.
Fisher & Paykel's Minimal Style is available in a range of steam assist, combination steam and convection ovens in 60- and 76-centimetre formats. Companion products like warming drawers, vacuum drawers for sous-vide preparation, and integrated coffee makers are also available.
Fisher & Paykel launched the Minimal Style line alongside its State of the Art collection at EuroCucina during Milan design week 2026.
