Dezeen Showroom: chrome, aluminium, nickel and steel are the primary materials in the following furnishings and products recently published on our Showroom section.

Metals have long been used in the production of furniture and fittings, however, it wasn't until the mid-twentieth century that the modern architectural tenet of 'truth to materials' became prevalent, and metal was left in its raw state.

Today, whether powder-coated in solid block colours or finished with a shiny, reflective look, metal continues to be a popular choice for furniture designers thanks to its timelessness and durability.

The following selection includes a cafe table that takes up no floor space, an adjustable table lamp based on those found in the Bauhaus Dessau, and an aerodynamic pendant lamp based on the streamlined design of sports cars.

Read on to discover a selection of metallic furnishings, including tables, seating and lighting.
