Design Mumbai returns to pioneer contemporary Indian design

Promotion: Design Mumbai is set to host its second edition in November, returning to the city's Jio World Garden with an extensive programme of events over four days.
Taking place from 26 to 29 November, the event will spotlight Indian design studios and international talent through installations, exhibitions and talks.
Across workspace, commercial, retail and residential design, the show will host over 80 exhibitors, with a growing selection of international brands.
Known for being the only Indian contemporary design show with an international lens, this year, Design Mumbai will welcome top design brands, including Natuzzi, String, Poltrona Frau and Blå Station.
A highlight includes a collaboration with designer Adam Markowitz, American Hardwood Export Council and Indian furniture manufacturer Phantom Hands, which will present an installation featuring sculptural dining tables, benches and wall sconces made from American cherry, maple and red oak.
Another high-profile project includes a site-specific cafe created by designer Lucas Muñoz to honour Design Mumbai's ongoing work with The Park Hotels, which will be built using repurposed materials from the company's refurbishments.
"When I was invited to collaborate with The Park Hotels on a cafe concept for Design Mumbai, my first instinct was not to think in terms of trends, but rather in terms of cycles," said Muñoz.
"Hotels are responsive to shifting tastes and evolving expectations," continued Muñoz. "They are refurbished every few years, updating their lobbies, swapping out furniture, and refreshing aesthetics to remain current. What is left behind is rarely discussed, but here is where I find the most inspiration."
Alongside Muñoz's cafe for The Park Hotels, Design Mumbai will also offer multiple spaces for public respite.
Soho House has also created a relaxing restaurant and bar at the show to reflect its Mumbai member's club, serving cocktails and food at a pop-up space decorated with the brand's signature design elements.
The design show will also spotlight the work of upcoming creatives in the Emerging Designers Pavilion, created by interior stylist Jasmine Jhaveri, including Studio Abrash, Wannas Design Atelier, Studio Klay and Trnkts3D.
Alongside the installations, Design Mumbai welcomes a lineup of architects, designers and industry professionals to discuss leading topics at the Design Mumbai Exchange conference, held in collaboration with the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA).
"We are thrilled to return to Design Mumbai this year, building on the extraordinary journey we began in 2024," said principal designer of Emanate Home, Monis Ahmed.
"Last year's edition was a testament to the power of innovation and creativity, and we look forward to once again illuminating spaces and minds with our passion for design."
