Brad Pitt brought on as executive producer for Peter Zumthor documentary

American actor Brad Pitt has joined German filmmaker Wim Wenders on the production of a documentary exploring the works of Swiss architect Peter Zumthor.
Set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival next month, From Inside Out – The Architecture of Peter Zumthor will be a 3D film that aims to immerse audiences in the Pritzker Prize-winning architect's buildings.
Pitt was recently brought on as executive producer of the film, which Wenders has been filming in collaboration with Zumthor for the last 14 years.
Pitt, an enthusiast of Zumthor's work, hailed the architect as a "master of light and shadow" in 2019 during a planning consultation for The David Geffen Galleries at Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), which completed last year.
Pitt "highly instrumental" to LACMA planning approval
"Brad Pitt serves as executive producer on the film, reflecting his personal support for the project and his admiration for both Peter Zumthor and Wim Wenders," said HanWay Films, which is handling worldwide sales of the documentary.
"His vocal advocacy for Zumthor's design of the LACMA building, even speaking up for the project at a decisive LA County hearing, was highly instrumental to its success."
Zumthor's expansion at LACMA is one of the buildings to feature in From Inside Out, alongside the Therme Vals spa in Switzerland, the Steilneset Memorial in Norway, the Secular Retreat house in England, the Kolumba Art Museum in Germany, the Bruder Klaus Chapel in Germany and the Wyss Building of the Beyeler Foundation in Switzerland that is expected to open later this year.
Wenders wanted to bring in the stories of those living in and visiting Zumthor's buildings, as well as capturing the materiality and design of the architecture.
"We all live and work in houses, but mostly know little if nothing about architecture," said Wenders. "From Inside Out wants to change that, not in any didactic way, but through sheer immersion and almost physical experience."
"You'll travel to remote and exclusive locations, and your guide is one of the world's greatest experts on 'the secret of places'."
Wenders directed the 2023 drama Perfect Days, which follows the life of a public toilet cleaner in Tokyo. Dezeen rounded up all 17 of the architectural Tokyo Toilets that featured in the Oscar-nominated film.
Last year, a docu-drama by filmmaker Beatrice Minger on the E-1027 house sought to highlight the boundary-pushing work of modernist architect Eileen Gray.
