Dezeen Showroom: Italian brand Casalgrande Padana aimed to combine the charm of alabaster stone with the practical benefits of porcelain in this tile collection.

Alabaster is a soft rock best known for its use in carved sculptures and decorative friezes, and the Alabastri tile collection attempts to evoke the material's timeless aesthetic.

The tiles feature an crackled, ice-like surface with delicate areas of shading and transparency that create a sense of depth.

Available with either a polished or smooth surface finish, Alabastri tiles come in a choice of five colours and five size formats as well a range of mosaic options.

Both bookmatch and endmatch versions of the tile are available, making it a good choice for designers wanting to create a seamless floor-to-wall surface.

Casalgrande Padana recommends Alabastri for both homes and public settings, as the porcelain stoneware tile is resistant to thermal shock as well as wear and tear, and will not warp or alter in appearance over time, according to the brand.
