Dezeen Showroom: Australian interior design studio YSG collaborated with door hardware brand Bankston Architectural on this oversized door pull striped with different-coloured woods.
Part of the Streaks collection, the Wide Guy door pull draws upon YSG's experiments with scale in its interiors projects, which have seen the designers produce custom oversized timber hardware.
Wide Guy is made of sets of two tonal timbers joined in stripes, with pairings ranging from the subtle Light Band – which alternates between American white ash and Australian blackbutt woods – to the deeper and more unusual hues of the Colour Band combination, which includes New Zealand purpleheart and African padauk timbers.
The same approach is echoed in the other handles and pulls within The Streaks collection, with the exception of a few pieces cast in patinated bronze, for those seeking to mix and match finishes.
Bankston Architectural envisages the Wide Guy door pull being used in residences but also hotels, bars and restaurants.
"The Streaks is what happens when you marry perception challenging design with the unadulterated beauty of timber," said Bankston co-CEO Steve Bradley.
