The sunsets of Rome and Miami influenced the orange hues found throughout Italian jewellery brand Bulgari's new store in the Miami Design District.

Created by Rome-based architect Massimo Adario and Bulgari's in-house design team, the two-storey building occupies a prominent corner in the shopping area.

The reopened boutique encompasses 3,229 square feet (300 square metres) and presents jewellery, watches, perfume and handbags on the ground floor floor, along with a salon for entertaining clients upstairs.

"Miami is a global hub for art, design and culture, making it the perfect setting to showcase Bulgari's Roman heritage, craftsmanship and innovation," said Hervé Perrot, the brand's North America president.

Palm fronds across the floors and woven textured walls nod to the store's location in Miami, while travertine furniture ties the space back to Rome

The building's facade comprises a double skin, with offset rectangular blocks adding texture and shadow behind large glass panels.

A gradient of deep orange to pale blue across the panels is intended to evoke the vivid sunsets that both Rome and Miami frequently experience.

"Locally rooted materials highlight the boutique's unique identity, while at night the facade transforms into a captivating, fully illuminated display," said the brand.

Inside, more bright orange accents appear in wall niches for highlighting individual products, as well as a focal ceiling installation formed from translucent acrylic batons arranged in a circle.

This wavy-edged cylinder is also expressed on the upper level, accessed via a deep-teal staircase, where it creates a ring-shaped balustrade in the centre of the room.

Floors are subtly patterned with palm fronds and walls are wrapped in woven textured materials that nod to Miami's tropical landscape.

Meanwhile, travertine furniture and fluted columns connect back to the brand's Roman origins, along with brass details

"Classic elements reimagined with contemporary detail define a distinctive space that balances heritage and modernity," the brand said.

Bulgari is the latest brand to revamp its presence in Miami Design District, which is home to many luxury retailers.

Fellow jewellery brand Cartier recently expanded its store with a bulbous facade by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, while smaller fashion labels Cult Gaia and PatBo have opened spaces within the past couple of years.

The Bulgari boutique's re-opening coincides with Miami art week, which takes place 1-7 December and encompasses fairs, exhibitions and installations across the city – see Dezeen's guide to what's on.

This year, highlights include The Future Perfect's debut exhibition at its new gallery in Villa Paula and a momumental rotating library on the beach by Es Devlin.
