Dezeen Showroom: Finnish company Khoy's flagship product transforms from a seat into a bed by simply unzipping it, without relying on conventional "over-engineered" mechanisms.
Available in sizes ranging from single to king, the Khoy sofa bed is made of two simple slabs of polyurethane foam that fold open like a book to make an expansive floor bed.
Inspired by the sofas of the 1970s, the bed is designed to deliver genuine comfort – whether for residents lounging at home or guests sleeping overnight – while simplifying the look and feel.
"Traditional sofa beds are often either uncomfortable as sofas, uncomfortable as beds, or both," said Khoy. "They can also be heavy, over-engineered and aesthetically compromised by the mechanisms needed to make them multifunctional."
"Khoy takes a different approach: remove the unnecessary complexity and make comfort the starting point."
Khoy was also the first company in this space to ship its sofas vacuum packed, reducing their volume for easier handling and distribution.
The sofas can be ordered with optional frames to support them if positioned away from a wall and are available in a choice of 12 fabrics.
