Promotion: colourful pet furniture and "folkloric robots" are on show as part of the Hungarian Fashion and Design Agency's exhibition examining the creative dialogue between traditional craft and artificial intelligence (AI).
Taking place from 8 to 13 April as part of Milan design week, Budapest Select – A VVoven View presents the work of 24 designers in a "compelling fusion of the past and future through material experimentation and artistic expression".
The exhibition explores the power balance between human-based craft and AI, and the technology's transformative impact on the design industry.
The exhibition unfolds across three spaces: the first focuses on traditional craft and materials; the second is dedicated to advances in technology; while the third area explores both.
"These seemingly opposing perspectives complement and reinforce each other, illustrating the distinct creative mindset that has defined Hungarian artistry throughout history and continues to shape its future," The Hungarian Fashion and Design Agency said of the third and final space in its exhibition.
On display are a cactus-informed table designed by Demeter Fogarasi, a patterned nightstand by design studio VUUV Works, and a pet furniture collection by design studio MANIKO.
It also features bold lamps by Make Sail, colourful stools by HENIBARA and artist David Szauder's Folkloric Robots, representing technology's impact on communicating folklore.
Handwoven threads are displayed throughout the exhibition to draw attention to selected artworks.
This was a bid to emphasise the "indispensable role of human interpretation in the creative process" and reinforce that AI remains a facilitator within the creative process.
Alongside the exhibition, the Hungarian Fashion and Design Agency will present a cultural programme with the aim of immersing Milan visitors in "Hungarian creativity".
This includes illustration workshops, folk performances and wine tastings.
"Budapest Select – A VVoven View is more than just an exhibition; it is a platform for international discourse on the future of design," said the agency.
"By presenting the innovative mindset of Hungarian creators, the exhibition introduces global audiences to a contemporary artistic philosophy where artificial intelligence and human craftsmanship converge, redefining the boundaries of creative expression."
The Hungarian Fashion and Design Agency was founded in 2018 to support the country's fashion and design industries.
It aims to promote Hungarian creators and provide opportunities at international design events such as Milan design week.
