Herman Miller updates Aeron Chair to ensure its "lasting design"

Promotion: American furniture design brand Herman Miller has been honing its Aeron office chair for decades, equipping it with innovative materials and features for modern workplaces.

Featuring an ergonomic form that supports sitters of different sizes and technological enhancements for better long-term sitting, Aeron was first designed in 1994 by Bill Stumpf and Don Chadwick.

According to Herman Miller, its launch was revolutionary in the office furniture industry, and it continues to lead the charge, thanks to a timeless design informed by ongoing research and use of innovative materials.

"For decades, we've been perfecting it so that it's not only good for your body, but good for our environment too," says MillerKnoll vice president of sustainability, Gabe Wing.

The most recent iteration of Aeron is equipped with Herman Miller's patented 8Z Pellicle, an elastomeric suspension material designed to assist weight distribution. It features an adjustable back support system that helps encourage a healthy posture when sitting.

The chair's tilting motions also mirror the sitter's natural pivot points at the joints, moving with the body to help keep it relaxed.

Over 50 per cent of Aeron is constructed from recycled materials, including ocean-bound plastic waste, which Herman Miller has been incorporating into the design since 2021.

The ergonomic office chair comes in three sizes and is available in six colours that range from dark blacks and blues to varying tones of grey and an olive green.

"Aeron's material innovation is at the heart of its sustainability story, and a lesson in the major effects of dematerialisation," says Wing.

"Not only is Aeron actively innovated upon, but it's also naturally sustainable through its quality design, which keeps it out of landfills. When we say Aeron is a lasting design, we mean it wholeheartedly."
