From experimental stone forms that defy gravity to a showcase of Lessinia's vernacular building traditions, this video, produced for Marmomac, highlights the top exhibits at this year's event in Verona, Italy.

International trade show Marmomac returned to Verona for its 60th edition in September, showcasing new approaches for working with natural stone, such as marble and granite.

The five-day event featured over 1,300 Italian and international exhibitors specialising in materials, technology and finishing products.

Italian architect Giuseppe Fallacia brought together researchers and universities to experiment with new ways of working with natural stone. Titled C'era Una Volta Il Cielo Dell'Architettura, the exhibit explored how stone could be made to rise against gravity through new forms, lighter structures, engineered materials and new construction methods.

Elsewhere, industrial designer Raffaello Galiotto curated Carisma Materico, a small exhibition exploring how computer-aided design and numerical technologies can be applied to stone production and architecture in the digital age.

At the centre of the exhibition, a large tactile architectural sculpture demonstrated how the natural qualities of stone could be expressed through digitally driven forms.

Another highlight was On Stone – Learning from Lessinia by British architect Joseph Grima and researcher Space Caviar, which explored the region's vernacular stone-building traditions.

Located between Verona and Trentino, Lessinia has a centuries-old tradition of constructing dwellings from locally sourced stone. The exhibition considered how these approaches could offer lessons for contemporary construction and the challenges facing the industry today.

Designer Davide Fabio Colaci presented 10 projects created between 1953 and 2022 to demonstrate the use of natural marble in interior design.

Visitors could walk across an inlaid surface made from reclaimed marble offcuts from each project. Colaci described marble as more than a finishing material, suggesting it can be used "as active elements in the construction of space."

Marmomac also presented 18 works by Italian and international artists located across the city of Verona and its most notable landmarks. The artists used natural stone to carve contemporary sculptures, as well as benches and seating for public spaces.

Marmomac took place in Verona, Italy, from 22 to 25 September 2026, marking the fair's 60 anniversary of bringing together natural stone, technology and design.
