ASUS and Dezeen's Design You Can Feel showcase, which features an interactive installation by Studio INI, opens from 8 to 13 April during Milan design week.
The event, which explores the themes of materiality, craftsmanship and artificial intelligence (AI), takes place at Galleria Meravigli, a historic 1920s gallery in the heart of Milan.
It is open to the public from 10:00am to 6:00pm each day and is free for everyone to attend.
It features a spectacular, immersive installation by Studio INI, the experimental design and research studio founded by Nassia Inglessis. It also showcases the design thinking behind ASUS products, including new limited editions of its Zenbook laptops. Read on for details.
Address: Galleria Meravigli, Via Gaetano Negri 6, 20123 Milano, Italy
Dates: 8 to 13 April 2025
Times: 10:00am to 6:00pm daily
Studio INI installation
The themes of Design You Can Feel are encapsulated by a specially commissioned installation by Studio INI.
Housed beneath the curved glass ceiling of Galleria Meravigli as you enter the space, the installation dynamically responds to visitors as they walk through it, their presence activating wing-like, semi-transparent panels that open and close behind them.
The wings, composed of aluminium honeycomb with elements made from ASUS' proprietary Ceraluminum material, engage the senses by reflecting and absorbing light, inviting visitors to touch the structure as they pass through it.
Building on Studio INI's expertise in creating experiential public artworks, the installation draws inspiration from the ASUS Zenbook laptop, known for its innovative, lightweight design and proprietary Ceraluminium material, to create a kinetic, biomimetic sculpture.
The installation will measure changes in conductivity caused by visitors' touch to create an AI-generated model representing visitors' real-world interactions with the piece.
"At Studio INI, we seek to create what we call an embodied intelligence in our designs – we create a seamless connection between built architecture and the human element," said Studio INI founder Nassia Inglessis.
"As people walk through the installation and touch the Ceraluminum, each touch will be recorded by the changes in its conductivity. So people will be able to see a spatial representation of their behaviour in the installation."
ASUS Design Thinking
Design You Can Feel will also showcase the latest ASUS products and the stories behind them via playful interactive exhibits that demonstrate what the brand describes as its "design thinking".
"At our core, we believe in the power of sensory experiences to forge meaningful connections with design," said H.W. Wei, associate vice president of the ASUS Design Center.
"It's all about crafting products that allow each user to feel and make good use of our innovations."
This area showcases the lightweight design, versatility and durability of the Zenbook A14, Zenbook Duo and Zenbook laptops. Interactive exhibits highlight how Ceraluminum is produced, as well as demonstrating the scratch-, shock- and smudge-resistance of the proprietary material.
The event also showcases other ASUS models, including Adol, one of the first laptops to include an integrated aroma diffuser, as well as its ProArt model for professional creators and ROG ACRONYM, a portable gaming laptop with integrated carry straps developed in partnership with fashion brand Acronym.
Ceraluminum Signature Edition Zenbook series
ASUS presents four exclusive limited editions of its Zenbook laptop, which is clad in the brand's tactile Ceraluminum material.
Each device in the Ceraluminum Signature Edition series features a unique Ceraluminum finish that draws inspiration from natural landscapes around the world: the volcanic terrain of Iceland; the mineral-rich thermal waters of Pamukkale, Turkey; the sandstone cliffs and dunes of Wadi Rum, Jordan; and the bioluminescent shores of the Maldives.
At the core of this collection is ASUS's patented Ceraluminum technology, an innovative material that is used to build the Zenbook laptop, including the latest Zenbook A14. The process involves ceramising aluminum, resulting in a material that is lighter than traditional ceramics, with a fracture toughness that is 10 times higher.
"This exclusive collection transforms the celebrated Zenbook into a living canvas that tells the story of nature's splendor," said ASUS.
"While the Zenbook line is celebrated for its cutting-edge engineering and sleek form factor, these exclusive models elevate that legacy by transforming premium technology into a sensory-rich experience that resonates with the organic beauty of nature."
On show for the first time, the laptops will be displayed in a separate product showcase alongside corresponding sleeves and packaging.
