Dezeen School Shows: an art school that focuses on the needs of visually impaired people is among the projects from My Archischool.
Also featured is a biology school with a design informed by the human body, and a meditation centre that floats on water.
My Archischool
Institution: My Archischool
Courses: Architectural Design Programme 1.0, Architectural Jewellery Design, Mathematical Visualisation and Architectural Authorship Programme
Tutor: Alice Cheung
School statement:
"My Archischool and students have started to experiment with sustainable design and wooden architecture to reduce the carbon emissions from concrete.
"The studio provides an introduction to architectural education and digital design for those seeking knowledge and skills to aid their future career aspirations.
"The Hong Kong-based organisation offers in-person and online courses to help young people develop 3D modelling skills that can be applied to future careers in architecture and urban planning.
"Geared towards children and teenagers between the ages of six and 18, the various stages of tuition start at beginner level and progress to cover a range of tools, interfaces and outputs.
"A variety of programme packages are offered to those wishing to develop a wide range of skills over several sessions.
"These include architecture history and theory, personal research projects and portfolio development, while the most comprehensive package concludes with an exhibition of student work after eight months of study."
Housing Design With City Living With Dogs by Anna Chu
"Inspired by her beloved dog, Chu has designed this wooden high-rise housing with a garden for everyday walks.
"High density has worsened public health conditions.
"Chu's design includes a sky garden with protective barriers to optimise the active play areas for dogs."
Student: Anna Chu

Restaurant Design by Coco Liu
"When city people live away from farmlands, they forget the interaction between humans and the Earth.
"The sculptural form of a rice grain influenced this project, which spotlights how food that ends up at a restaurant is grown.
"Liu has designed a restaurant where people can consume the restaurant's homegrown edible flowers and herbs."
Student: Coco Liu

Performing Art Centre Design by Angelina Chen
"As an award-winning Chinese dance performer, Chen reinterprets the space of a building with elegance of fluidity.
"The space covers the plaza and main entrance, whilst the stage is located on the top level of the high-rise.
"An added sky garden is a space for social gathering."

Cafe Design by Gianna Lui
"Lui has designed a café in Pottinger Street, which illustrates how to create animal-friendly public spaces.
"The cafe adopts pyramidal forms, high glass walls with a cosy colour scheme. A calmness is created by the sunlight through the building's gaps.
"These are the VIP seats for the animals, such as the pets and birds."

Floating Refuge Design by Sofiya Baskakova
"After finishing their work, people are exhausted. Young adults are facing high unemployment rates and vigorous work competition.
"Baskakova's design is a floating refuge centre, which serves as a rescue station to a brand-new meditation platform on water.
"The form of the centre is inspired by a lily flower, symbolising the pureness of the soul."
Student: Sofiya Baskakova

Retreat Design by Claire Lee
"Inspired by a stingray, Lee has designed a youth retreat for teens.
"In Hong Kong, there is a rising number of student suicides. Lee believes that more outdoor spaces should be provided for the young students.
"Here, a wooden deck was designed to lead to the main entrance. The site features human-made rivers and a circular lobby.
"Trees and bushes guard the perimeter, ensuring balance between public and private space."
Student: Claire Lee

Floating Cafe Design by David Ma
"Borrowing the form of a fish, Ma looked at the building materials for various forms which could be mixed and matched to create a boat.
"Ranging from wood to structural aluminium, he found that different material strengths could enhance each other, structurally and visually.
"He put the dining area on the lower deck, whilst keeping the 'tail' zone as the communal area. The upper deck would be the gathering area for a larger group.
"The design is made from wood, which offers a flexible combination with different metals and is warm to the touch."
Student: David Ma

Music School Design by William Yang
"Inspired by the mountain ranges, Yang has designed a music school featuring a powerful form, which evokes an emotional journey.
"This project started with the concept of soundscapes with water. By surrounding the music school with a water garden, visitors need to go through layers of spaces."
Student: William Yang

Biology School Design by Alfred Fong
"Fong designed a biology school using the ergonomic approach, as inspired by the human body.
"An intersection of a rectangular structural spine and the curvilinear enclosure allows the floors to be connected effectively at both ends.
"He started looking at various forms and spaces of buildings, which could facilitate stronger communication among students, teachers and the public.
"He used the biology school design to examine any new classroom designs that could be used to support better learning for the future."
Student: Alfred Fong

Art School Design by Albus Oscar Chung
"Books of visually impaired students are mostly blank, without graphics and images.
"Inspired by the form of a cone shell, he has designed an art school village consisting of two art schools, one for the visually impaired and the other for the sighted.
"The ground floor is covered with textured stone paving, whilst all the floor level differences are removed.
"With the wooden structure of the buildings, the touch becomes the guidance for everyone. The smell of the seawater and the sounds of the neighbouring traffic are all signalling the directions."
Student: Albus Oscar Chung
Course: Architectural Design Programme 1.0 and Mathematical Visualisation
