Dezeen Showroom: Italian architect Matteo Thun marked 10 years since the release of his Venere Bianca clay vases with SensiTerre – a tile collection created for ceramics company Florim.
SensiTerre porcelain tiles, created by Thun's architecture and design studio Matteo Thun & Partners, reflect the qualities of artisanal, handmade clay pieces in their colours and textures, despite being machine made.
Developed in collaboration with designer Benedetto Fasciana and design brand Bitossi, the project looked to the combing, engraving and gauze imprints used in the clay workshops of Renaissance Italy.
With SensiTerre, the focus was on recreating the spirit of those techniques, resulting in a tile with a choice of four surface textures, including one that looks carved with deep irregular lines and another that looks gently combed.
The tiles are available in a choice of six colours ranging from pale sandy hues to traditional terracotta and a dark coal-like shade.
The collection comes in a wide choice of small and large formats and different geometries, allowing designers full creativity to come up with original configurations.
