An angular exterior informed by diamonds will wrap the Arctic Arena football stadium in Bodø, Norway, designed by Oslo-based studio Nordic Office of Architecture.

Designed as the home stadium of Norwegian football club FK Bodø/Glimt, Nordic Office of Architecture hopes Arctic Arena will be a landmark venue for Bodø and a space where local residents feel a sense of community.

The 10,000-seat stadium will have a faceted exterior that draws on the shape of diamonds, intended as a representation of Norwegian resilience.

"Designed with respect for the Arctic climate, northern Norwegian rawness and timeless Nordic architecture, Arctic Arena emerges as a new icon," said Nordic Office of Architecture partner Knut Hovland.

Arctic Arena was designed for the FK Bodø/Glimt football club

"The arena combines local culture with the club's international ambitions and becomes a place for great achievements and social engagement – a sustainable arena for sports and community," Hovland continued.

"The arena has a strong identity and intrinsic value, and its location will make it a prominent landmark, with a visual expression that symbolises unity and shared values."

Wood and aluminium will line surfaces at the Arctic Arena. Its dark exterior will be contrasted with bright interiors informed by FK Bodø/Glimt's signature yellow colour.

As well as providing facilities for men's and women's football teams, Nordic Office of Architecture aimed to give the stadium a flexible design that can adapt to host other types of events.

Warmed-toned interiors were chosen to reflect the club's signature colours

"With a dark exterior and a warm, glowing interior, an inviting atmosphere is created," said Nordic Office of Architecture.

"Openings and entrances are clearly marked and reflect the sky, northern lights and sun, while the stands create a colour spectrum where FK Bodø/Glimt's base colours form the foundation – a visual reinforcement of both the place's and the club's identity."

Other stadiums set to be built around the world include Gensler's design for a sunken football pitch in Egypt and Populous's revamp of the Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium at Lake Como.
