Pine Island Cottage, Canada, by Bureau Tempo and Thom Fougere

Canadian studios Bureau Tempo and Thom Fougere sought to create a feeling of being exposed to the elements with the interiors of Pine Island Cottage, a holiday home in Georgian Bay, Ontario.

In the main bedroom's ensuite, a freestanding ceramic bathtub sits next to a full-height window looking out into the surrounding forest, while fieldstone walls and flooring made from locally sourced Erasoma stone enhance the sense of bathing in nature.

Casa Quinto Sol, Mexico, by Estudio Cristina Grappin

This freestanding bath also looks through a full-height window onto forest – albeit in a more tropical setting. It sits in Casa Quinto Sol, a sprawling residence near the Pacific Ocean in Mexico's Punta Mita.

The tub has a subtly organic shape, softening the grey marble floors in combination with wooden bathroom furniture.

Eaton Square townhouse, UK, by Child Studio

Child Studio came up with a suitably rich bathtub design for this opulent home in London's ultra-prime Belgravia neighbourhood.

The bath, like the sink, is built in, made from emerald-green Verde Guatemala marble that cascades across the floors and up the walls. It was carved by a marble workshop in northern Italy and inspired by the modernist mansion Villa Serralves in Porto.

The bathroom inside this San Francisco house has a decidedly dreamlike quality, thanks to its complete absence of colour and serenely curving walls and ceilings.

A rounded nook accommodates the circular bathtub, stationed next to a blobby, translucent window.

Local studio Dominic McKenzie Architects updated a Victorian, Grade II-listed  home in south London.

The bathroom of Screen House by architecture studio Carter Williamson is covered from floor to ceiling with tactile black tiles to create a spa-like setting for its owners.

A freestanding bathtub was placed under a bubble-like pendant light that is suspended from the asymmetric pitched roof.

As part of an extension and refurbishment of a heritage-listed building in Sydney, architecture studio Atelier Dau added a ground floor bathroom.

The bathroom is defined by porcelain floor tiles designed by Patricia Urquiola and a statement roll-top bath alongside a narrow window with views to the home's internal courtyard.

This London home designed by interiors studio House of Grey incorporates a range of natural materials and finishes.

In the bathroom, the walls were coated with a lime-based plaster surface called Tadelakt, which is waterproofed using a soap solution. The bath and sink were made from a combination of sands, unfired clays, pigments and minerals.

Czech studios Formafatal and Refuel Works left the concrete structure exposed throughout this villa nestled into the jungle in Costa Rica.

In the master bedroom, a concrete tub is set alongside a pair of glass doors that allow the space to be opened up to the surrounding jungle.

The Boathouse, Devon, UK, by Adams+Collingwood Architects 

London studio Adams+Collingwood Architects designed this house overlooking Salcombe Estuary so that its first-floor living spaces could take advantage of views across the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

On the ground floor, which is embedded into the hillside, there are four bedrooms and three bathrooms, including the master en-suite that features a copper bathtub.
