School statement:

"Spatial designers create spaces that have a positive impact on people and the world around them.

"Spaces that support people in everyday situations and activities, that offer experiences and stimulate interaction, that allow people to discover new things and be amazed, in which people feel comfortable and safe.

"Interior and exterior spaces are designed for a wide variety of occasions and environments – from multimedia exhibitions to forward-looking use of space in agriculture and participatory urban planning.

"Spatial design inspires people to get creative and create spaces that are both aesthetically pleasing and offer sustainable added value for society and the environment."

Dialogue Between Species by Cedric Bühler

"Although urban space is built by humans, it is by no means exclusively a human habitat.

"The work 'Dialogue Between Species' is dedicated to the active exchange with our environment and the non-human inhabitants in order to depict the actual totality – the co-world.

"To illustrate the importance of biodiversity in urban areas, this project uses the example of Emmen to show how habitat can be created with minimal structural interventions.

"It also shows the time gained for the long-term integration of biodiversity through dialogue, towards a connected community."

Experience Wabi-Sabi by Jessica Abderhalden

"The Japanese philosophy Wabi-Sabi, a concept for perceiving the beauty of imperfection, transience and simplicity, can be experienced in a sensory space.

"The installation invites visitors to slow down and quietly reflect. Wabi-Sabi reveals itself here as an attitude of conscious appreciation that inspires more mindfulness in dealing with time and resources and forms an antipole to the fast pace of life."

Designing Transformation by Stefanie Hafner

"Public squares are important elements of urban life, but their potential often remains untapped.

"Despite its central location, Amthausplatz in Solothurn is not very lively.

"In my bachelor's thesis, I investigated how such a place can be revitalised through sustainable and user-oriented approaches.

"The resulting concept is based on an analysis of the current use and design of the square, takes into account the historical context and is geared towards the needs of the people who use it today and in the future."

In Between by Tara Vitali

"At the centre of this work is the table – a symbol of community, rituals and encounters in the Lenzerheide tourist region.

"While tourism causes the population to swell from 3,000 to 30,000 in the high season, the locals remain at the heart of the place in the off-season.

"In the middle of the table, the installation presents interviews that illustrate the ambivalent perspectives of the locals on the seasonal fluctuations.

"They show both the love for the place and the joy of tourism as well as the resulting challenges."

Gardens Without Borders? by Mirja Di Giacinto

"Access to private gardens is becoming increasingly difficult due to high-density construction in Swiss cities. This runs counter to the need to have one's own green space with privacy.

"The Gardens Without Borders project addresses the question of how privacy can be dealt with in communal gardens and with whom we are prepared to share this space.

"The answer to this question is of an individual nature. Visitors in the exhibition can use the questionnaire to find out what their personal garden space with (or without) privacy could look like."

Ruum Ge, Ruum Ne by Joséphine Strebel

"Ruum Ge, Ruum Ne aims to create places in public spaces that counteract the reality of unequal gender relations through a creative intervention.

"The starting point is the Ufschötti in Lucerne, a central meeting place for young people that has so far offered hardly any specific activities for young women.

"Based on conversations with young women, the idea was born to use a simple intervention - the installation of swings – to give new impetus to the use of the space.

"The installation invites people to perceive and use the space differently. It creates islands of attention and opens up new perspectives for inclusive urban development on a small scale – with a big impact."

Schwendi – Space of Refinement by Marc Lieberherr

"In Switzerland, two farms disappear every day. What remains are not only abandoned farms, but also unused alpine pastures.

"Before such places are completely abandoned, it is worth looking at new ways of using them.

"Using the example of the 'Schwendi' alp (Switzerland), the project demonstrates a possible concept. Fruit grows on the slopes, which is harvested in the fall and refined and stored in the vacant rooms in winter.

"In this way, alpine farming is maintained in summer – and supplemented by year-round use. From a seasonal grazing area to a year-round processing area."

Space For Tranquillity by Anja Lara Giossi

"In everyday university life, students and employees are often under high pressure and stress. Our university does not yet offer any space for targeted relaxation and mental regeneration.

"My project is therefore dedicated to the conception and design of functional and aesthetically pleasing retreats at our university.

"To this end, spaces for relaxation, peace and privacy are being designed to promote wellbeing, the ability to concentrate and mental health.

"It includes a quiet room, a retreat room and a nursing and sanitary room."
